Iconoclasm

Iconoclasm, based on Dirck van Delen’s 1630 painting Iconoclasm in a church, explores the self-reversing, purifying, reducing and then once again proliferating and fragmenting operation of the act in which image destruction becomes an image. It is a recursive dance, a continuous escape of an abstract, sculpture-like figure. A constant oscillation between disintegration and reassembly. A return cycle in which, removed from the temporal framework of human perception, the seemingly immutable architectural space morphs from an indifferent backdrop of transformation into an active participant.
